HOW THE COLLABORATION STARTED
During the development process of the UPPAbaby KNOX Convertible Car Seat, UPPAbaby partnered with Koroyd to integrate an engineered energy absorber into the seat, optimising its protection.
Koroyd has been successfully integrated into a whole range of safety products. It was a natural progression to integrate Koroyd into child seats.

During a sudden car crash, the impact causes forward inertia for the passengers.
In more simple terms, the child continues to move forward at the same velocity even though the vehicle has slowed or stopped.
The seat belt prevents the child seat accelerating forwards and force is transferred through the base of the seat.

TRANSFERRING THE ENERGY
To prevent this force from being transferred to the child, an efficient energy absorber is required.
When Koroyd is impacted, energy is better-absorbed through sacrificial plastic deformation, a little bit of heat and a little bit of noise.
Koroyd absorbs more energy per millimetre compared to alternative materials, using up to 78% of the material thickness to manage the forces.
